Regeneration
Urban & rural regeneration
We continue to play a pivotal role in supporting the drive for urban and rural regeneration throughout Northern Ireland.
Regeneration is not only about the physical geography but includes improving the economic, community and social aspects of places where people live.
In 2008-09 we invested £19 million:
Supporting the Department for Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy;
Implementing Urban Renewal Programme;
Implement the Rural Housing Strategy - Places for People;
Continue to implement a programme of sectoral studies and strategies.
Regeneration research
The Research Unit undertakes and commissions a range of urban and rural regeneration research projects. Its Neighbourhood Renewal Surveys assist District Managers in developing strategies to address a range of problems encountered in housing estates.
During the year the Department for Social Development commissioned us to undertake a series of neighbourhood renewal surveys in order to provide attitudinal information for residents in the neighbourhood renewal areas in Northern Ireland.
