Picture Library

Introduction

Our picture library holds thousands of images depicting the wide ranging activities of the Housing Executive since the 1970s. We are exceptionally lucky to have a highly talented in-house photographer documenting every aspect of our work, and more besides.

About the library

David Spence has been with us since 1978, and along with his predecessor, Reg Perry, they have created a unique pictorial record of life in Northern Ireland over the last four decades.

Thousands of photos of housing related subjects have been taken to illustrate the change in Northern Ireland's Housing over the past 35 years.  Recording streets of terraced houses due for demolition, showing improvements in housing conditions, publicising award winning developments and housing innovation.

While our photographer has travelled round the province there have also been opportunities to take pictures of our beautiful countryside - or as Dave says, "a chance to prove that it doesn't always rain in Fermanagh!".

Our archive goes beyond simply recording the work we do, it documents the changing face of Northern Ireland over the last 35 years.

Accessing the images

While a lot of the pictures in the library are of a transient nature, a significant proportion form an invaluable record which we are happy to share. Over the coming months we will be publishing an online archive, allowing anyone to view our image library. As you can imagine, this is a huge task, so please bear with us.

In the meantime, if you are looking for a photograph and you think we might be able to help, please get in touch with us
