Councillor Eamonn O’Neill was a school teacher for 30 years in Castlewellan, he spent 10 of these years as Vice Principal. In 1991 he founded the Castlewellan Regeneration group and has chaired the group since the beginning.
Eamonn is a member of the Northern Ireland Housing Council and was on our Board between 1995 and 1998. He was also a member and past chairman of the East Border Region between May 1977 and May 2005.
He was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly and appointed Chairman of the Committee for Culture, Arts and Leisure between 1998 and 2003.
Eamonn also served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Down District Policing Partnership from 2002 to the present. He was Northern Ireland Chairman and National Chairman of the Association of Public Services Excellence in 2003.
Eamonn O’Neill was appointed as a part time member of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission in June 2005.
