We have developed extra support schemes for young people leaving care

Families and single parents

  • We have introduced a tenancy support scheme for young mothers.
  • We monitor and manage the location and type of temporary accommodation units to provide adequate locally available provision.

Domestic violence

  • We have introduced a tenancy support scheme for victims of domestic violence.
  • Where necessary, we have retrained staff on dealing with victims of domestic violence.
  • We have also assisted Women's Aid in carrying out a fundamental review of the need for refuges.

Young people and single people

  • We are formalising joint protocols with Health and Social Services Boards/Trusts for young people, particularly those under 18 years old.
  • We have published joint research with Simon Community on young people leaving care.
  • We are developing and expanding rent guarantee schemes and floating support for young people leaving care and single homeless people.

People suffering from mental health or addiction problems

  • Developing "move on" accommodation.
  • Introducing floating support to help sustain tenancies.

People with a physical disability

  • Ensuring that adequate temporary accommodation units suitable for disabled persons are provided to meet demand.

People sleeping rough

  • Completing an evaluation of outreach services in Belfast.
  • Implementing appropriate action arising from commissioned research on rough sleepers.
  • Developing "move on" accommodation.

People leaving the criminal justice system

  • Contributing to Probation Board for Northern Ireland Accommodation Strategy.
  • Developing floating support.
