Save Money
Save energy, save money
Start saving money without spending any
Close your curtains at night to keep in the heat
Never leave your hot water running
Defrost fridges and freezers regularly and never leave your fridge door open
Use the shower if you have one, rather than the bath
Only use the amount of water you need when boiling the kettle (make sure you cover the element of your electric kettle)
Turn off the lights when you leave a room
Never leave mobile phones on charge overnight
Make sure your computer equipment is completely switched off and unplugged when not in use
Electrical appliances on standby could be costing you up to £117 every year – switch them off!
Steamer pots allow you to cook two or three foods at once in the same pan
Use "task" lighting rather than lighting the whole room if you only need a small amount of light
Don't put warm or hot food straight into your freezer - let it cool down completely first.
Keep the lids on your pots, and turn down the heat when the water starts to boil. The lids not only keep the heat in the pot, but also reduce condensation in your kitchen.
Your oven is expensive to use - try to use it as sparingly and efficiently as possible. Where possible use it for more than just one item, and remember you can cook food that needs a higher temperature at the top of the oven while other foods cook at a lower temperature at the bottom.
Don't open your oven door to check food - every time you do so, you lose 20% of the accumulated heat.
By spending a little you can save even more
Fit shelves above radiators to deflect heat to the middle of your room.

Fit low energy light bulbs, they use around a quarter of the electricity of a normal light bulb.
Buy “A” rated electrical appliances where you can, e.g. fridges, washing machines, etc....it will save you money in the long run
Ensure your heating system has a programmer, room thermostat, cylinder thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves, and that they are properly set
