What is a Home Repair Assistance Grant?
This is to carry out moderate repairs, improvements, basic security measures and adaptations to your home.
Who can apply?
Owner occupiers and private tenants may get assistance. You will have to be either:
- 18 or over and in receipt of Income Based Job Seeker's Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, or Pension Credit (Guaranteed Credit element), or
- 18 or over, be ill or have a disability. You will have to be in receipt of a qualifying benefit such as Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance or Long Term Incapacity Benefit.
What works are covered?
Grant aid will be for the outside of your house, for example, the roof and rendering. It can also be for work that will improve health and safety, for example electrical wiring.
How much grant is available?
You can get assistance up to a maximum of £5,000 over a three-year period.
Can I get help to process my application?
Your grants office will be pleased to answer your questions at any stage of the process. If you are elderly or have special needs we have made arrangements with some independent agencies to help you.
How long does it take?
This depends on the level of demand and the money available. You can help to speed up the process by sending in your documents on time.
How is the grant paid?
You will be paid when the work is finished and acceptable to us and you have sent us all accounts, receipts and certificates. You can receive payments during the work if the grants manager agrees.
