Warning on bogus callers in Lisburn

Our tenants in Lisburn are being advised to exercise caution when answering doors to tradesmen at homes in the city.
This follows a recent incident of ‘bogus calling’ where a resident answered their door to a man claiming he was there to service the household’s boiler. As the boiler had only recently been serviced and the caller had no ID the tenant refused entry and contacted us.
Our Lisburn & Castlereagh Area Manager Aengus Hannaway said:
“Members of our staff were made aware of a bogus caller saying he was there on behalf of the Housing Executive to service the house’s boiler.
“As this home’s boiler was only recently serviced our tenant was alerted to the fact this might be a bogus caller and refused entry.
“I would remind tenants we will always notify them in advance when our contractor is going to call to service the boiler and they should always ask to see identification from any callers claiming to be from the Housing Executive.
“All members of our staff carry identification and will produce the pass for inspection.  Their identity can be verified by calling the phone number printed on the pass.”
