Information for service providers

The Social Housing Development Programme is managed by the NIHE Development Programme Group (DPG) and provides grant to housing associations to build social housing. The Programme is currently managed on a 5 year basis.

The Housing Association Guide

The Housing Association Guide contains the rules and procedures for housing associations which receive a capital grant allocation. The guide has been updated to reflect the transfer of operational functions to the Housing Executive on 1 April 2007. It is therefore important that all appropriate housing association staff make themselves aware of its content. The Housing Association Guide is maintained by the Department for Social Development.

Social Housing Development Programme (SHDP)

This is the SHDP for the 3-Year period 2010/11-2012/13, which has been approved by the Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie. (Full details of the 3-Year SHDP can be accessed by clicking the appropriate link below).

The Housing Executive’s focus for Year 1 (2010/11) is to manage and co-ordinate development activity undertaken by housing associations so as to ensure that work commences on the construction of 2000 new units of accommodation before the end of the current financial year (i.e. between the period 1st April 2010 and 31st March 2011).

It should be noted that, whilst funding has been secured for Year 1 activity, funding arrangements for the remaining two Years (2011/12 and 2012/13) remain dependent upon the outcome of the on-going Comprehensive Spending Review / and the review of the Programme for Government.

This year, for the first time, the 3-Year SHDP is being published together with an Un-met Social Housing Need Prospectus. The Prospectus will be an integral part of the SHDP formulation process, which recurs on an annual basis. The Prospectus document highlights areas throughout Northern Ireland with the greatest level of un-met housing need and a current shortage of acquired development sites.
