Supporting People
About supporting people
The Supporting People Fund pays for housing related support services that a landlord, or someone working for them provides. In certain instances it can also fund the provision of support to people in their own home. Support means advice and help to make it easier for vulnerable people to live independently. That can include:
Someone to help people to manage their money and pay their bills
A warden or scheme manager who is there in case people need help
Someone who helps people to live independently
Someone who helps people learn how to follow the rules in their tenancy agreement
Someone who provides advice or assistance
How will supporting people benefit me?
We manage Supporting People for anyone living in Northern Ireland. This means that we can make sure support services are high quality and meet the needs of the people they are aimed at.
The Supporting People Team look at the quality of services against defined standards and work out if services are value for money. The team talks to providers to make sure they operate within the set standards. They also talk to staff, and to the people who use the services, to make sure a clear picture is given of the service.
As time goes on, we will be able to provide information on which are the best services in Northern Ireland.
We believe that if such a system is to succeed, one of its requirements must be that both service users as well as their providers are given the opportunity to participate in determining how services will be developed and delivered.
If you wish to send us feedback on specific Supporting People services or would like further information, please do not hesitate to fill in the feedback form, or alternatively email us at supportingpeople@nihe.gov.uk
We have included case studies on this site which show examples of the types of help the Supporting People Team can offer. You can also find out more about our Supporting People strategy.
