Introduction

We have strategic responsibility for accommodation for the Irish Traveller community in NI. The Housing Order (NI) 2003 transferred ownership of and responsibility for Traveller serviced sites from District Councils to the Housing Executive.

• From 1 December 2003, local District Offices have been responsible for the management of serviced sites in their area. The allocation of pitches on serviced sites are administered through local District Offices. They are also responsible for transit sites in their area.
• We work with the Department for Social Development and Registered Housing Associations to provide suitable accommodation for Travellers and to improve living conditions wherever possible.
