HMO fire regulations
This grant is to make improvements to a house which is considered to be an HMO.

Who can apply?

HMO grants are only available for existing properties within regeneration areas such as Grants Urban Renewal Areas, Grant Rural Renewal Areas or Town Centre Living Initiative Areas.

What works are covered?

The HMO Grant is available to bring the house up to HMO standards for the number of people living in it and to make it fit for human habitation.

How much grant is available?

The amount of grant we will pay depends on the approved cost of the work up to a maximum of £25,000. We will calculate if you have to make a contribution.

What is the HMO fitness standard?

In addition to the basic fitness standard HMOs must also be fit with regard to the facilities required by the occupants. Therefore there must be adequate:
  • facilities for the storage, preparation and cooking of food
  • number and location of toilets
  • number and location of baths, showers and wash-hand basins
  • facilities for the escape from fire
  • fire safety precautions

Contact your grants office to register your property. Grant aid may be processed as part of the registration process.
