Housing Executive tenants on the Ardowen estate in Lurgan have seen a vast improvement in the area, following the recent completion of a second phase of environmental improvements.
The total cost of the work we carried out was in excess of  £1.5m, and was undertaken in two phases;  Phase 1, costing £950,000 and involving 71 homes, and Phase 2, costing £630,000 and covering 39 homes.
Colin Ross, the local District Manager, is delighted that the work is now completed and said, “The environmental improvements have made a huge difference to the appearance of the estate, and will vastly improve the living conditions of our local residents in Ardowen.
"The work included demolition of old properties to provide new roads and car parking, provision of new paths, extended gardens, walls and metal railings. Faulty windows in bungalows and houses were replaced, and canopies were provided over the front doors."
Eddie Rooney, Chairman of the Monbrief Residents Association, also welcomed the scheme and commented “It is great that all the improvement work has been completed.  People in Ardowen are now extremely proud of their estate and with the second phase of the works complete the transformation is fantastic.
"The Housing Executive has shown its commitment to the estate and we in the residents association will be encouraging local people to take pride in their homes and to help maintain the area.”
