Fifty six tenants in the Willowfield and upper Castlereagh areas of East Belfast think our £220,000 kitchen replacement scheme has all the right ingredients.
The 56 homes are a mixture of houses, bungalows, flats and maisonettes and as part of the scheme tenants will be able to select their new units, worktop and tiles from a range of options. Electrical and plumbing installations will also be upgraded to cater for modern day appliances and a new cooker hood and floor covering will complete the look. We will also take the opportunity to install or upgrade smoke and heat detectors as necessary.
The contractor is PK Murphy and their Customer Services Manager will work closely with tenants and Housing Executive staff. One to one consultation will be carried before work begins and tenants will also be provided with an information booklet which contains practical advice and contact details for the Customer Service Manager as well as a 24 hour helpline telephone number.
It’s important to us that tenants’ homes are able to cater for all aspects of modern day living and we believe that the provision of new kitchens is an excellent way of achieving this.
However, it is equally important that the service we provide is the best it can be in terms of quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction. So as well as ensuring that the tenants involved have a real say in the type of kitchen they want we will also be aiming for zero defects. The appointment of a Customer Service Manager will go a long way in helping us achieve this as well as ensuring that the scheme progresses with minimum disruption for tenants.
Eunan McCourt from PK Murphy, said, “PK Murphy is fully committed to customer involvement and we believe we have backed this up with a high quality product and service. If this scheme progresses like previous ones in East Belfast then we know that the tenants involved will have a kitchen they can be really proud of.”
Belle Fee was one of the first tenants to a new kitchen as part of the scheme and commented, “It’s lovely to get a nice, new modern kitchen. The extra sockets and cooker hood are great and the fact that I was able to choose my own cupboards and work tops means that the new kitchen reflects my own personal taste.
“I have to say that the workmen were great and I would like to say a big thank you to them and my Housing Officer Chris Benson for all their help.”
The scheme involves 56 properties at the following locations:

- Castlereagh Road
- Cregagh Road
- Euston Street
