Omagh & Cookstown staff raise money for Charis
Staff from the our Cookstown and Omagh Offices have presented a cheque for £550 to Donna McGarvie from Charis Integrated Cancer Care.
The money was raised by the staff who took part in a sponsored walk to Slieve Gallion.  Handing over the cheque to Charis, Ivan Armstrong, Housing Executive District Manager, thanked everyone who had supported the event. “The walk was one of a number of fundraising events undertaken by Housing Executive staff across Northern Ireland to help mark the organisation’s 40th’anniversary," he said.   "I am delighted that so many staff participated in what was a difficult but very enjoyable walk to raise money for Charis.  This is a very worthwhile cause.
"Our thanks go, not only to our own staff for their fundraising efforts but also, to our all trades contractors combined facilities management and our community groups who so generously sponsored us.”
One of the staff from the Cookstown Office who helped organise the walk was Siobhan McKeown, Senior Housing Officer. She said, “The hike up Slieve Gallion Mountain was led by John Mc Crea our Maintenance Manager. Staff got more than they bargained for. Described by John as a gentle hike it was an immense challenge for most members of the team.
"Everyone was elated to reach the summit. They were wet, muddy and exhausted when they finished the hike but delighted to have completed the challenge and raising so much money for the local cancer charity Charis.
Val Beattie, Charis Fundraiser said, “Charis is grateful to Cookstown Housing Executive for their amazing fundraising of £550 which will directly fund complementary treatments for clients at the Charis Centre.”
