High rise flats in Larne
Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland, has announced plans to remove a number of flats in Larne which had become the focus of anti-social behaviour.
The plans will see a total of 58 flats demolished - 34 at Cairngorm Road, 8 in Linn Road and 16 in Shanlea Drive. The area has been blighted in recent years by vandalism and anti-social behaviour and housing need is low in the area, with 51 of the 58 flats no longer in use.
Minister McCausland said, “This is an important day for the people of Craigyhill and the Linn Road estate. The demolition of these 58 flats will remove the blight of void and unlettable stock, enhance the environment and protect previous investment in the area. The completion of this project will see a much more pleasant and harmonious environment for the local residents by removing the source of anti-social behaviour which has proved a problem in the past.”
We will now start to contact all those directly affected by the demolition and outline exactly how they will be affected. An implementation plan will also be developed in consultation with the local community detailing how and when this work will be delivered.
