Over 150 Housing Executive tenants in the Summerhill, Ardcarn and Cherryvalley areas of East Belfast are getting their homes upgraded courtesy of a £590,000 external maintenance scheme.
The majority of the homes already have uPVC double glazed windows and these will be serviced as part of the scheme – while homes that don’t have double glazing will get new uPVC windows. We will also replace any defective external doors and rainwater goods and repair roofs, chimneys, paths, fences and railings.
The 155 homes, which are a mixture of houses, flats and bungalows, were built between 1919 and 1992. As with all improvement schemes the emphasis is very much on customer satisfaction and to this end we will be working closely with our contractor and the community to ensure that any concerns that arise during the scheme are addressed as quickly as possible.
Each tenant will also be contacted in the run up to the scheme starting so hat they are fully aware of what work will be carried out to their individual home.
PK Murphy is carrying out the work on behalf of the Housing Executive and their Site Foreman, Barry Murphy, added, “We’re delighted to be working with the Housing Executive on this scheme. As with all our contracts we will be aiming for 100% satisfaction and will work closely with residents so this can be achieved. ”
The work will have a big impact, not only on individual homes but on areas in general, as Ardcarn tenant Ann Birch explains, “You just have to look round to see that people here take a lot of pride in their homes - so it’s nice that they are getting a bit of a facelift. I have to say that the workmen from PK Murphy were great. They really tried to keep the disruption down to a minimum and I would like to thank them for that and also my Housing Officer Susan Crossan who was always on hand to deal with any queries I had.”
The work will be carried out on a phased basis to 155 homes at the following locations:
- Ardcarn Drive, Green, Park and Way
- Barnetts Road
- Cherryvalley Gardens and Park
- Cloghan Crescent, Gardens and Park
- Knockland Park
- Summerhill Avenue
