Summerhill, Banbridge
Following the impact of reduced government funding and the recession on housing we are even more determined to direct our resources towards housing for vulnerable people and those without their own home.
John McPeake, Director of Design & Property Services, spoke with Banbridge councillors about our District Housing Plan for their area. John outlined the importance of working together given the substantial savings Government plans require us to make.
While we continue to look for additional funding from the Department of Social Development we have to be realistic in what we can hope to deliver.
Our focus is on those in greatest need. We have made new housing our top priority and concentrated our funding on meeting housing need.
Last year we recorded 1,838 new social housing starts.  This is the highest number in over a decade and while it is an encouraging start it is only the beginning. We will continue to focus on protecting the level of investment in new housing and in improving the quality of current housing.
John emphasized that, “Housing is not just about physical ‘bricks and mortar’ issues”.  He also noted our committed to providing quality housing services and working with others to create safe and confident communities.
