Kilrea & Moneydig pupils draw their dream homes

School children from Kilrea Primary and St. Columba’s Primary Schools Kilrea have taken part in our “Draw Your Dream Home” competition.
The competition is part of a programme of events to help decide if new social or affordable housing is needed in the Kilrea and Moneydig areas. Coleraine Assistant District Manager Avril McAuley explained, “We are encouraging anyone in housing need to register with us. Often in rural areas, people don’t register as they feel they will have little chance of being housed in their local area. However this leads to a situation where no new homes are ever provided because there is no apparent need.”
“As well as a drawing sheet, each child was given a leaflet for their parent or guardian encouraging anyone in genuine housing need to come forward. It was very difficult to choose the winners as the standard of the entries was so high. While we might not be able to provide all of the great features designed by the children like helipads and swimming pools, identifying that there is a need is the first step on the road to providing decent homes where they are needed.”
“I would encourage anyone in housing need in either Kilrea or Moneydig to register before 5th March 2012 by ringing 02890 318563.”
Avril McAuley also thanked the two participating primary schools for their help in organising the competition. The overall winner of the competition in St. Columba’s Primary School was Cara McTaggart, with Year 5 winner Matthew McElholm, Year 6 winner Rosie Rogers and Year 7 winners Molly Thompson and Fionnuala Keane. In Kilrea Primary School Erin Gibson’s drawing was the overall winning entry while Brandon Patterson was Year 6 winner and Cherith Paul the Year 7 winner.
