If you are a landlord, make sure you and your tenants aren't missing out on the Warm Homes Scheme.
Many private tenants in Northern Ireland could be missing out on free help with insulation and heating through the Warm Homes Scheme.  The scheme is funded by the Department for Social Development and aims to make your home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.
The Warm Homes Scheme is open to both home-owners and private tenants, who are in receipt of a qualifying benefit or tax credit.
Under the scheme, your tenants could receive a range of insulation measures including loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, hot water tank jacket and energy advice.  Loft insulation top ups are also available.  If your tenants do not have a heating system or are reliant on solid fuel, bottled gas (LPG) or Economy 7 they may be eligible for a new fully controlled energy efficient oil or gas central heating system if they receive a qualifying benefit.
To qualify for this scheme you must own or privately rent your home from a landlord and be in receipt of one of the following benefits.
  • Income Support*
  • Income Related Employment & Support Allowance*
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance*
  • Pension Credit*
  • Child Tax Credit (Relevant income less that £15,860)
  • Working Tax Credit*
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Housing Benefit*
All those listed above will qualify for insulation measures and only those marked with an asterisk (*) qualify for heating systems.
This is a fully funded scheme therefore there is no cost to homeowners, tenants or landlords.
