The windows in 144 Housing Executive homes in the Lower Beersbridge and Mount areas of East Belfast are being replaced with double glazed uPVC units.
A further 125 homes already have doubled glazed window units and these will be serviced as part of the scheme.
The homes involved are a mixture of houses, flats and bungalows built between 1901 and 1990. This scheme will make a great deal of difference to the tenants involved and is a further sign of the Housing Executive’s commitment to continually improve the quality of its housing stock.
The windows being replaced in this scheme had come to the end of their useful life and by replacing them now tenants should benefit from greater energy efficiency, noise reduction as well as lower heating costs.
Our contractor, PK Murphy, will work closely with district office staff and tenants throughout the scheme and I’m confident that this partnership will help achieve the high standards we all expect.
Eunan McCourt, PK Murphy’s Customer Service Manager, added, “We’re delighted to be working on another Housing Executive scheme in the East of the city. We pride ourselves on building good working relationships with tenants, by keeping them informed at all stages of the process, and we’ll be aiming for that in this scheme.”
Rhoda McClure was one of the first tenants to get new windows and said, “The new windows are brilliant - you wouldn’t believe the difference they make. I’ve noticed that the flat is a lot warmer so I’m bound to save a bit of money on my heating bills and that can’t be a bad thing. I would also like to say a big thank you to my Housing Officer Chris Benson and the workmen – nothing was too much bother for them.”
Work will be carried out on a phased basis to 269 homes in the following areas:
- Beersbridge Road
- Calvin Street
- Canton Court
- Channing Street
- Clara Street
- Glenvarlock Street
- Grove Street East
- Isoline Street
- Jonesborough Park
- Quinton Street
- Ravensdale Crescent and Street
- Tamery Pass
- Upper Frank Street
- Wayland Street
- Willowfield Street and Walk
