Community groups and individuals from across Northern Ireland came together in Ballymena to celebrate the success of our Social Housing Enterprise programme.
Since its launch in 2015, the Housing Executive has invested nearly £1million - creating 37 new jobs and supporting a further 24 existing posts - in communities through social housing enterprises.
Delegates at the conference, which was held in Tullyglass House Hotel, heard presentations from community groups and organisations which have benefited from the scheme including: a water bottling plant in Larne, a furniture upcycling shop and family support service in Newry and a new community café in Coleraine.
Colm McQuillan, our Director of Housing Services, said:
“We are confident that by undertaking this new role, we can build and grow locally owned and managed businesses that will bring real and sustainable benefits and transformational change to local communities and their residents.
“Already, we have seen tangible changes within successful communities across a diverse range of projects. Social outcomes include increasing community capacity and skills, raise employment opportunities, increase inward investment, improvements to the local physical and social environment, and improved health and well-being of our residents.”
