It's Silver Surfers’ Day on Friday 18 May. It aims to teach people over 50 how to access the internet, send an email, do online banking and shop online. Informative, free ‘taster’ sessions are being held at libraries and other venues throughout Northern Ireland.
The event is now in its ninth year and it's designed to help older people get more confident using the internet. It is important that everyone, regardless of their age, has access to the web.
Volunteers from the local business community are on hand to talk about the benefits of using computers and surfing the internet.
During Silver Surfers' Day people are able to learn of the many things which can be done online, such as:
- book cheap flights
- shopping
- find a computer course
- bank safely
- pay your rent
