The January 2012 edition of Rural Matters, our regular newsletter for all rural homeowners and tenants is now available to download. The magazine will be distributed to rural community groups across Northern Ireland in the near future.
In this edition we highlight our contribution to rural regeneration and village renewal through the provision of funding in over 20 areas across Northern Ireland. This is a pilot initiative and we intend to review its success and consider whether to extend it further next year. We are also carrying out Housing Need Tests in a number of smaller rural towns and villages to see if new social and /or affordable housing is required and would encourage anyone to contact us if you feel there may be a hidden need for new housing in your area.
The focus is also on our new Chief Executive as he answers questions, stressing his commitment to doing what he can to assist in the development of rural communities in the future. Phyllis Clarke a member of the Fivemiletown Estates Group highlights how small things can make a difference as she calls for people to look out for their neighbours, particularly those who are older or vulnerable. We are also supporting community based food growing projects. Rural Matters also advises on protecting your home during cold weather, insuring your furnishing and belongings, and the dangers of contaminated oil and the damage that can do to your heating system.
We would also encourage you to contact us if there is something you want us to include in future magazines. Simply ring Michael Conway our Rural Coordinator on 028 90 318559 or email michael.conway@nihe.gov.uk
