Building Positive Relations

The Housing Executive’s Building Positive Relations Programme aims to develop cross-community area networks (CCANs) across the greater Belfast area. The first element of the program will build positive relations amongst members of the local network by developing trust and empathy through a programme of good relations.

The second element of the programme will involve the members of each CCAN in a programme of collaboratively developing a vision for their local area and working with specialists to shape, capture and record the visioning in the form of a community plan.

The Good Relations element of the programme will use a variety of methods such as:

  • Community story-telling
  • Group work
  • Residential trips
  • Digital technology
  • Intergenerational work

The Visioning element of the programme will involve:

  • Place-shaping vision sessions
  • Facilitation of development of shared community vision
  • Production of “Our Future Place” report by a specialist for each CCAN
  • Provision of technical support for plans, such as business plans, feasibility studies, consultation reports
