The House Price Index for the second quarter of 2012 has been published.
This report analyses the performance of the Northern Ireland housing market during the second quarter of 2012, the months of April, May and June. The report looks at the local the housing market and compares it with the second quarter of 2011, as a measure of annual change, and with the first quarter of 2012, to show quarterly change. The report is produced by the University of Ulster in partnership with the Bank of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
This summer marks the fifth anniversary of the peak of the regional house price boom and the report shows a near 50% decline in average prices since mid 2007.
There is a little positive news, with the average price of homes sold in the period rising by 1.2 per cent compared to the same time last year. However, when the figures are adjusted to take account of the mix of properties actually sold the figure shows an overall decline over the year of 2.4%.
