Glenbank Generations track hits the right note

Young people from the Glenbank area of North Belfast have come together to produce and launch a charity song, with all proceeds going to Children in Need.
We funded the development and recording of this professional DJ track through the Areas at Risk Programme and have been working closely with Glenbank Community Association.
A lack of youth initiatives in the area was identified, so the opportunity of DJ training and recording a professional DJ track was made available to 30 young people in the Glenbank area. The track, entitled “Tears from your Eyes” by “Glenbank Generations,” was developed over 13 sessions and concluded with a full day session during which the young people recorded their track. As well as giving the young people of Glenbank a huge boost to their confidence, the programme promoted DJ skills and knowledge of the music industry, allowing them the opportunity to sample a previously unknown career path.
The training was delivered by R City Media, based in Donegall Pass. The cover artwork has been professionally designed and the track will be released worldwide on iTunes, with all proceeds going to Children in Need.
Deirdre Crawford, our Community Cohesion Manager, explains why we are happy to provide funding for this type of project:
“The benefits of projects like this are two-fold: the young people have an opportunity to learn valuable new skills, as well as being able to come together in a creative environment and build new relationships. The Housing Executive is delighted to be able to promote the Areas at Risk programme in this way, which brings people together in a neighbourhood that is safe and welcoming to all and threatening to no-one.”
Helen Holland, Chairperson and Volunteer for the past 25 years with Glenbank Community Association is delighted with the outcome of this project. She said:
“The project came about through the Areas at Risk Programme. The youths from Glenbank have worked very hard alongside the team from R City Media to produce ‘Tears from Your Eyes’.
“The name of the group is Glenbank Generations which reflects the past generations of Glenbank Community Association that was established in 1960. From inception to completion of this project the young people have gained confidence and new skills that could lead to possible future employment opportunities. The track will be on sale on iTunes and all proceeds will at the request of the young people be donated to Children in Need which is a very worthy cause.”
The official launch took place on Friday 14th November at Glenbank Community Association, 2 Glenbank Drive, Belfast. Refreshments and other entertainment such as Scottish dancers were also on show and it was an excellent opportunity for local community to get together to celebrate the talent of their young people. CDs were available to purchase on the night, and other fundraising activities were going on to raise much needed funds for Children in Need.
“Tears from your Eyes” is available to pre-order on junodownload.com and will be publically available on iTunes on 24th November.
