The Housing Executive has approved over 16,000 grants to replace old inefficient heating boilers.
Nelson McCausland Minister for Social Development said: “The Boiler Replacement Scheme has been hugely successful since its launch in September 2012 and aims to assist 24,000 owner occupied households to replace their old inefficient boiler with a new energy efficient ‘A’ rated condensing boiler over a three year period.
"The total budget amounts to £24 million including £6 million pounds from the European Regional Development Fund which is making a real difference to people out in the community including the most vulnerable.”
Since September 2012 we have helped more than 11,300 low to medium income households replace their old inefficient boiler with a more efficient one.
Siobhan McCauley, Housing Executive Director of Regional Services said:“The Boiler Replacement Scheme has been very successful. Since it began in September 2012 we have approved over 16,000 grants to home owners and more than 11,300 boilers have been replaced. .The grants help replace inefficient heating boilers over 15 years old with energy efficient condensing oil or gas boilers; switching from oil to gas; or switching to a wood pellet boiler.
“The scheme, provided by funding from the Northern Ireland Executive and the European Regional Development Fund, under the European Sustainable Competiveness Programme for Northern Ireland offers owner occupiers a grant of up to £1,000. It’s available to those who earn less than £40,000 a year who have an inefficient boiler of at least 15 years and is dependent on total gross income.
“The Boiler Replacement Scheme is making a real difference financially to those families who have replaced their boilers. By replacing an old non-condensing boiler with a new condensing boiler, householders in an average three bedroom semi-detached house can save in excess of £2,700 over 10 years. This figure increases the older the boiler being replaced.
“Homeowners who think they are eligible should call the Housing Executive on 03448 920900 or register by email at firstname.lastname@example.org."
