Habitat HOPE Builders

Our team in North Down and Ards have become Habitat HOPE Builders.
They recently presented Habitat NI with a cheque for £1,240 to support the organisation’s vital work.
The average cost of a Habitat home in the developing world is £1,235 approximately 1% of the average house price in Northern Ireland, which was the target set. To raise the money the team organised a variety of events including pub quizzes, soup kitchens and hotdog mornings.
Jill Gallagher, one of the area’s Housing Officers, who was part of the fundraising team said: “We are proud to become Habitat HOPE Builders and support such as worthwhile cause. It’s great to know that we are helping families build their own way out of poverty. We would encourage everyone to support Habitat’s HOPE Builder campaign.”
Every day, in over 70 countries around the world Habitat works with families to help them to build their own way out of poverty, through building, renovation or repairing their homes.
Dianne Whyte, Corporate Relations Manager and Habitat NI commented: “Through their fundraising efforts one more family currently living in poverty will have the ultimate gift of a home which is amazing. When we think about our homes they provide us with much more than protection from the elements; it’s a place we raise our children and look after family, a place to return to at the end of the working day and a place to study, learn and play. Sadly for over 1.6 billion people home is not the place it should be.”
Dianne continued: “We call upon the local business community in Newtownards and throughout Northern Ireland to take on their own HOPE Builder Challenge for example £5 will provide a bag of cement to start to build the foundations of a home, £100 will provide essential tools for four families and £250 will pay for a roof. It’s a great way for colleagues to come together to help give a family in need the ultimate gift of a home.”
