Feeling safe and secure in Newry

A recent survey highlighted that in order for older people to continue to live independently in their own home they need to feel safe.
In Newry this has been made that bit easier through a home security initiative from the Confederation of Community Groups which received funding towards the project from our community grant initiative.
The grant has resulted in 68 local homes, including 19 Housing Executive homes, receiving additional security including locks, alarms and lighting.
Packie Flynn of Carnagat Park was delighted to have new lighting installed at this front door saying:
“I really appreciated the work carried out, give me a bit of peace of mind and feel safer in the house, the man that did the work was a wee gentleman”.
Commenting on the initiative Eileen Grant, of our Newry local office, said:
“Feeling safe and secure in your home is important. In the Newry area the Confederation of Community Groups has helped many local older people take a huge step towards this with this initiative.
“When we read the application and potential outcomes we knew it was a project we’d be delighted to support with a community grant.”
