We are delighted that three Housing Executive initiatives have been shortlisted in the Sustainable Housing Awards 2014 organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Transformation Award

Glens Community Garden

Thanks to the efforts of the Housing Executive  and the Glens Community Association in Limavady,  what was previously a bleak and unused grass area, has been transformed into a stunning woodland garden, carefully designed to meet the needs of the whole community with a ‘sow and grow’ section, nature walk, tranquillity and Marie Curie Garden.

Smaller Housing Retrofit Project of the Year

Housing Executive’s External Wall Insulation Pilot Scheme

Solid walled properties are traditionally difficult to insulate and a source of problems including dampness and condensation. We successfully piloted an external wall insulation scheme in 3 rural houses, with less upheaval for the tenants,  as external wall insulation can be installed during occupation and with the added benefit of improving the appearance of houses, making them look newer and more attractive.

Community Influence Award

Redburn Loughview Timebanking

Time banking is a means of exchange where time is the principal currency. An important part of the Housing Executive’s Sustaining Tenancies Strategy, the Redburn Loughview Timebank is supporting people to live independently. It works to develop full sustainability with the day to day running of the project managed by its community members. These ‘time brokers’ were trained by Volunteer Now.
