Our South East Grants team will be attending the Young at Heart Retirement Living Exhibition in Bangor on Wednesday 19th March.
The workshop, which will take place in the Aurora Complex, is aimed at retired people and the Housing Executive team will be happy to chat to anyone who has a query regarding the grants on offer.
Our staff will be available to offer a number of options to owner-occupiers, landlords and private tenants, including:
Boiler replacement
This scheme offers owner occupiers a grant of up to £1,000 to replace inefficient boilers, which are over 15 years old, with energy efficient condensing oil or gas boilers; switching from oil to gas; or switching to a wood pellet boiler. Our team will be at the show to discuss if you’re eligible and give you details of how you can apply.
Disabled Facilities Grant
Owner occupiers, landlords and private tenants can get assistance up to £25,000 to carry out adaptations, providing there is a person with a disability living in the house. We can help you improve access to your bathroom, living room or bedroom, provide additional bathroom facilities, make your preparation and cooking of food easier, adapt lighting or heating controls and improve your heating system. Our team will be able to offer you guidance on the day and point you in the right direction of finding out more and how to apply.
Repair Grants
This grant is available when the Environmental Health Officer from a council has served a Statutory Notice on a house.  A maximum grant of £7,500 in any 3 year period - is available to landlords, agents and some private tenants for the repair or replacement of existing items.  Our team will be happy to offer you guidance at the show.
Diane Cooper and Mairead Brady are attending from the South East Grants office.  In commenting on the event Diane said: “Events such as this are very important to the Housing Executive to help promote what grants are available to owner-occupiers, landlords and private tenants.  Mairead and I are there to discuss how those attending, family or friends might be able to benefit from the boiler replacement scheme, the disabled facilities grant and the repair grants.”
Mairead went on to add: “The South East Grants office covers the District Council areas of North Down, Ards part of Castlereagh, Down and Lisburn. The grants are not exclusive to retired people and we appreciate many may not be able to come along to Young at Heart so to find out more contact the office on 03448 920 900, E: southeast.grants@nihe.gov.uk or log onto www.nihe.gov.uk.
