We want to determine if there is a need for new social housing in rural areas

Do you think the Poyntzpass area needs more housing?
This is the question we are asking local residents as we carry out a survey to help decide if there is a need for new social housing for rent in Poyntzpass.
As part of the survey we are also looking at interest in buying an affordable home through shared ownership – part buy/part rent. The exercise runs until 31 March 2014 and anyone who needs a home is encouraged to register their interest by this date.
Our Area Manager, Comghal McQuillan, explains: “Traditionally the Housing Executive checks its housing waiting list to determine housing need.  However, we find in some rural areas people do not register their interest in an area as they feel they will have little chance of being housed there. This means need for new housing can remain hidden.
“Therefore, it is essential anyone in genuine housing need in and around the Poyntzpass area comes forward and registers their interest with us.”
Poyntzpass is an area where we want to find out if social and affordable homes are needed. If they prove the need exists it will be highlighted to housing associations which will look for an appropriate site to develop.
Anyone interested in living in Poyntzpass, or if you know someone who might be interested, is encouraged to:
One of the Housing Executive’s housing officers may be in contact to complete an application if they do not already have one on file for you.
We are grateful for the support of local community representatives who are helping with this exercise. Leaflets have been distributed across the local community.
