Gerry McGuickin Assistant Housing Services Manager, West Belfast office has officially hung up his rent book and retired.
West Belfast man Gerry joined the Housing Executive as part of a youth training programme (YTP) way back in 1976 and over the years he has worked in a number of offices including, Rent Accounting as well as our Dairy Farm and South Belfast District Offices.
But for the past ten years Gerry has been working in West Belfast and in fact to many people Gerry is the face of the Housing Executive in West Belfast.
Sharon Beattie, our West Belfast Area Manager said: “As well as being a consummate professional Gerry is also something a character and he will definitely be missed by his colleagues and friends throughout the Housing Executive.
“I think one of the things he enjoyed most during his career was working with tenants and community groups and I know that he has been very moved by the many tributes and well wishes that he has received from them.”
During his time in West Belfast, Gerry has been very much involved with the Housing Community Network and their chairperson Renee Crawford paid this tribute to him:
“I have to say that we will miss Gerry both in terms of the work that he did with the Housing Community Network and his warm and friendly manner. Gerry always has a smile on his face but could be firm as well – he would tell it as it is and we all respected him for that. So on behalf of the Housing Community I would like to wish him a long and happy retirement.”
And the man himself has the last word: “It goes without saying that I have really enjoyed working for the Housing Executive for what has almost been four decades.
“I will definitely miss West Belfast and, of course, all the people that I have met along the way. But on the other hand I am looking forward to relaxing and spending more time with my family. And as a big Manchester United fan maybe even another career but then again maybe not!”
