A new residential housing scheme providing supported living for 16-21 year olds has been officially opened in Newry.
Oaklee Trinity has invested £415,000 on the upgrade of the one bedroom apartments which will provide purpose built supported living for young people, aged 16 -21, in partnership with MACS Supporting Young People. The new apartments are a result of positive collaborative working between OakleeTrinity Ltd, the Housing Executive, the Department for Social Development (DSD), and the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSSPS).
Timothy Quin, Oaklee Trinity Chairman said: “I am delighted to be celebrating the opening of our new housing scheme for young people in Newry, with our colleagues from MACS Supporting People, DSD, DHSSPS and the Housing Executive. It is great to see another development continuing this positive partnership. These apartments will offer quality and modern accommodation with many aspects of the residents’ lives being enhanced through this new facility. I offer my best wishes to the new tenants and hope they have many happy days at the scheme.”
The Housing Executive’s Deirdre Crawford, speaking at the official opening, said: “The Housing Executive is delighted to jointly fund this project in Newry, through our Supporting People Programme, on behalf of the DSD. This is an excellent example of how a coordinated, interagency partnership approach is providing accommodation and support services which will enable young people in the Newry area to gain life skills and progress towards more independent living.”
