Now’s the time to take some effective steps to save energy and reduce heating and electricity bills.
Noel Rice, our Energy Conservation Manager explains:
“We are encouraging all householders to consider the energy efficiency of their home. There’s information and advice available about the type of improvements that can save money on energy bills including some low cost and no cost measures.”
If you’re thinking about changing your boiler – get advice. New energy efficient A rated boilers will save on your energy costs. There are other energy efficient options available if you are planning on renovating your home or building a new one. Make sure you get the right advice for you. If you are a homeowner, you may also be eligible for a boiler replacement grant, but applications should be made by end of December as the scheme closes on 31 March 2015. Servicing your boiler every year you will save money on your fuel as well as saving money on expensive repairs. A service usually costs around £50. Remember, always use a registered service engineer, Gas Safe for gas heating and OFTEC for oil heating.
Pay less for your energy
Check out the rates you are paying for your oil, gas and electricity and make sure you are getting the best deal for you. Always discuss payment options with your supplier. Different payment methods can attract discounts, for example, paying by direct debit will usually get the biggest discount. Useful website- www.consumercouncil.org.uk.
If you use oil for your heating, consider an oil buying club; bulk deliveries mean better rates. Useful website www.nihe.gov.uk.
Insulate your home
Insulation is one of the best ways to save energy, plus it makes your home warmer and more comfortable. You can insulate in a variety of ways, such as filling cavity walls, topping up loft insulation, putting jackets around hot water tanks and draught proofing.
