Housing Executive and Helm team up to win the People’s Choice Champions award at Shack Attack.
Paul Isherwood, our Director of Asset Management, teamed up with housing sector colleagues from Helm Housing Association to take part in Habitat NI’s unique challenge event, the Shack Attack, which happened at the Sunflower Festival in Hillsborough on the 31 July - 2 August
The team were tasked with building a shack from scrap materials and sleeping out overnight, to experience some of the challenges faced by families living in poor housing every day in the developing world.
Paul Isherwood said:
“I am delighted that the Housing Executive, along with our colleagues in Helm, has been chosen as the People’s Choice Champions. Our efforts this weekend are a small example of what can be achieved when we decide to work together for the benefit of others.
"I would also like to thank my colleagues in the Housing Executive DLO who provided the scrap materials and helped to get them to the event.”
“It is fitting that the Housing Executive, as a social housing provider aiming to ensure that affordable high quality sustainable housing and neighbourhoods are provided across Northern Ireland, helps those charitable organisations trying to do the same in the developing world.”
There are 1.6 billion people in the developing world who do not have a decent place to live, with 20 people dying every minute from conditions related to poor housing, according to Habitat.
The organisation serves a family in need every four minutes.
