Registration Scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)

Notice of Intention to Submit an amended Registration Scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) in Northern Ireland to the Department for Social Development for approval.
The Housing Executive intends to submit an amended Statutory Registration Scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) to the Department for Social Development (DSD) for approval.
The proposed amendments are as follows:
- Paragraph 1.2 to be amended to provide clarification on the responsibility in relation to Registration of HMOs that have multiple owners.
- Paragraph 1.5 to be amended by deleting “unless informed otherwise before the specified registration date for the HMO”.
- Paragraphs 6.2 and 6.3 to be amended to reflect that regulation of gas safety is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Executive NI under the Gas Safety Regulations.
- Paragraph 11.2 to be amended to include the definition of a HMO as stated in the legislation.

When the registration scheme has been approved by the Department for Social Development the Housing Executive will publish a notice confirming this, and will confirm the date on which the amended scheme will come into operation.
