The recognition is part of the Ulster University Placement Employer of the year Awards 2015.
The Housing Executive has been shortlisted in the public sector category of the Ulster University’s Placement Employer of the Year Awards. The winners will be announced on 13th May 2015.
The Housing Executive has for many years provided work based learning opportunities for Ulster University housing students. The most recent group of 12 started their 6 month work experience in October with a welcome day and meeting their training mentors.
Putting the needs of the students at the heart of the programme, we identify from the outset areas of special interest and facilitate these during a 6 month programme by holding a series of ‘away days’, while the students work in our local offices supervised by local managers.
The programme ensures they experience a range of activities outside the office environment providing insight into the world of social housing. ‘Away days’ include for example working together fundraising for a homeless charity, setting up their own student teamsite and visits to a range of external partners including a homeless hostel.
