Over 50s don their dancing shoes

The over 50s of Coleraine donned their dancing shoes recently when they gathered for a tea dance in the town to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a local community group.
Coleraine Borough 50+ Forum was established in 2005 and to mark its tenth year it held a day long series of events, culminating with a tea dance, thanks to a £2000 community grant from us.
The group is made up of a number of groups from across the Coleraine borough, representing the interests of older people, meeting bi-monthly and producing newsletters.
As part of its celebrations the group staged an information event attended by over 20 exhibitors, offering advice on the health and welfare of older people.
This was followed by a buffet. That evening over 100 people gathered in the Lodge Hotel and danced the night away.
Rosemary McCaw, Secretary of Coleraine Borough 50 plus Forum, said: “The tea dance was a brilliant event and everyone enjoyed it. The dance meant people from across the borough could come together and it was also a way of saying thank you to all the volunteers who help out.
“I would like to thank the Housing Executive for awarding a community grant to the group,” she added.
Mark Alexander, our Area Manager for Causeway, said: “We were delighted to award the community grant to the Forum and hope that the tea dance will help to further promote good relations between groups in the town,” he added.
