A £50,000 social enterprise grant funded by us has breathed life into a new, state-of-the-art children’s indoor play facility in the Colin area of West Belfast
Roar and Explore, based in the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre and operated by the Ortus Group, boasts three party rooms, a healthy café, a treble-tier soft play area and a toddler and baby area.
In the evenings the not-for-profit facility is available for community events, training and seminars.
The jungle-themed soft play centre will initially create 10 new jobs, including management and catering roles.
Catherine McClelland, Play Area Project Manager commented: “From the start, we wanted to involve the local community in the heart of the project.
“The play area’s aim is to be a community hub, offering a wide range of activities for children up to the age of 11 plus additional support for parents.
“Therefore, it was important to us that the children who will be visiting the area feel involved.”
The Ortus Group ran a competition asking local schoolchildren to design and name the play area mascot and the winner was Oisin McGloin from Our Lady Queen of Peace School, who created Roary The Lion.
Our Social Enterprise Liaison Manager Paul Carland said; “We are committed to building vibrant and self-sustaining communities throughout our housing stock and these investments are a valuable means of doing so.
“By helping address issues of employability, the environment and building inward investments locally, we hope that our tenants’ quality of life and that of the wider community will be enhanced.”
