Tenants in Hillhall, Lisburn are set to benefit from a £860k investment in their homes.
We piloted a scheme which saw new bathrooms and kitchens being installed as well as an upgrade to the house’s electrics at properties in Hillhall Park, Hillhall Gardens and Meeting House Lane. The feedback from tenants has been resoundingly positive and all 75 homes are due to be completed by May 2016.
Tenants living in Ashmount Gardens have already benefitted from maintenance to the outside of their homes. The homes had their fascia boards and guttering checked and replaced where necessary and new fencing. The outside of their homes were painted early in 2016. The next stage of their homes’ revamp will see new kitchen and bathrooms installed along with an upgrade to the electrics. This work is due to start shortly after Easter.
Gerry Flynn, Director of Landlord Services, recently visited two homes in Hillhall which benefitted from the scheme along with Director of Asset Management, Paul Isherwood.
He said:
“The Housing Executive operates a large scale maintenance programme for our properties and this year we will be investing over £100m across Northern Ireland in a range of maintenance schemes.
“I am delighted we are able to make this new style capital investment in our homes as part of our commitment to upgrading the fabric of our properties. The success of the pilot in Hillhall bodes well for the rest of the scheme.”

Tenant, Rebecca Delo, said:
“I love my new kitchen as it’s a much better layout and everything flows more easily. The new shower is amazing, the previous bathroom was a bit dated but this new one is brilliant. My mum and friends all love the new look. The guys just got on with the work and although it was a bit dusty they did tidy up well after themselves…it was a nice experience.”
The Turkingtons were equally pleased with their experience adding:
“We would like to say a big thank you from us to all involved in making this possible…the kitchen and bathroom have been done to such a great standard. They were completed within the time scale that was set it’s a massive improvement to our home!”
Our partner in the scheme is PK Murphy and by the time it is complete, June 2016, over 135 homes will have had the kitchen and bathroom make-over along with the electrics upgraded.
