Consultation open on homelessness strategy
Published: Thur, 8 Dec 2016
We are undertaking an external consultation exercise to seek feedback on our future strategic direction on homelessness
Ending Homelessness Together – the Homelessness Strategy for Northern Ireland 2017-2022 was launched this morning, Thursday 8 December. The strategy sets out our proposals for the development of a comprehensive approach to homelessness.
Siobhan McCauley, our Director of Regional Services said:
“The strategy sets out our key objectives and actions aimed at preventing homelessness where possible and funding long term sustainable housing and support solutions for those households faced with homelessness.
“The strategy supports a multi-agency approach to tackling homelessness and recognises the importance of local service delivery.
“The Housing Executive will carefully take into account all of the views and suggestions you put forward to help us finalise our homelessness strategy for Northern Ireland,” she added.
Welcoming the launch of the consultation, Minister Givan: “I welcome the publication today of the Housing Executive’s draft Homelessness Strategy. It sets out a renewed focus on tackling this important issue, prioritising the need to find suitable accommodation and importantly preventing homelessness.
"To complement this Strategy, I will ensure that government works more collaboratively to help address the underlying reasons why people may find themselves in a homeless situation and collectively we will continue to support some the most vulnerable in society.”
