Cricket coaching bowls over Antrim youth
Published: Tue, 17 May 2016
Community groups in Antrim are taking part in a free cross community cricket coaching programme being funded by us.
Professional cricketer, Avadoot Dandekhar, will run fun and inclusive sessions over a six-week period for young people aged eight to 16-years-old, beginning this month.
The coaching sessions will be used to promote good relations among youths from the areas of Town Parks North, Steeple, Rathenraw, Ballycraigy, Parkhall, Stiles and Greystone.
Organiser Ryan Haire, from Muckamore Cricket & Lawn Tennis Club, said:
“Community groups will receive coaching for two hours per day, one day a week, for six weeks and, we will come to you so there won’t be any travelling involved. This is a great opportunity for young people to learn a new sport or build on existing skills. I would urge local groups to get in touch soon as there are still some places available.
“We would like to thank the Housing Executive for its funding and support, this is a pilot programme but there are plans to roll it out further across the Antrim town area during the summer.”
Our Good Relations Officer, John Read, said:
“We are delighted to support this programme which will help to build positive relationships between young people across Antrim.”
