St.Mary's pupils take part in the Housing Executive ‘My Dream Home’ competition.
Pupils from St Mary’s PS, Dunsford in Ardglass took part in an art competition as part of a programme of events to determine if new social or affordable housing is needed in the Ballyhornan area.
We will be hosting an event next Wednesday 25th January at the Ballyhornan Family Centre to give people a chance to come forward and speak to housing advisors and to Ark Housing Association about the new build housing scheme proposed for the area.
Our Grants officers will also be in attendance to offer advice to private home owners on the availability of grants to improve energy efficiency or to adapt their homes to better suit their needs.
Our South Area Manager Owen McDonnell said:
“We are encouraging anyone who is in need of a home in Ballyhornan to register with us. Often in rural areas, people do not register as they feel there is little chance of being housed in their local area.
"This however leads to a situation where no new homes are ever provided because there is no perceived apparent need.

“As well as a drawing sheet, each child was given a leaflet to take home with details of our Information Event on the 25th January where we hope anyone who may be interested in a new home in the area will come forward and speak to our housing advisors.
“The Housing Executive would like to thank all the pupils for taking part in the competition. The standard was exceptionally high and we are pleased to announce that the winners were P2 Pupil Beth Zych and P5 Pupil Mollie Hanna.
“While we might not be able to provide all of the great features designed by the children like swimming pools, slides and game rooms, identifying that there is a need is the first step on the road to providing decent homes where they are needed.
“I would encourage anyone who may be interested to come along or to contact a housing advisor by ringing 02895 982 502.”
