Eyesore transformed into artwork

Schoolchildren in Derry~Londonderry have transformed a graffiti daubed electricity generator into a colourful work of art, thanks to funding from us.
St Patrick’s Primary School pupils teamed up with local artist Joseph Campbell to create the artwork depicting sports and community activities that take place in the local area.
The project was organised by Leafair Community Association and supported by our Cohesion Unit.
Peter McDonald, from local community group, said:
“We were approached by St Patrick’s Primary School with concerns about the generator sited close to the entrance of the school, which was covered in sectarian graffiti. It was an eyesore, especially for young children who see it every day.
“We facilitated workshops with local schoolchildren and the artist – together they created a design which is both colourful and means something to the local area.”
Our Good Relations Officer, Eddie Breslin, added:
“We are delighted to support this project involving local schoolchildren working with the community to improve their surrounding area.”
