Dunclug neighbours come together

Residents in Dunclug, Ballymena, recently enjoyed a community celebration day with dance and musical performances from around the world.
The ‘get to know your neighbour’ event was organised by the resident’s group, Dunclug Partnership, and supported by us.
Patricia McQuillan from the local group says the celebration day brought the whole community together.
“We have people from many different backgrounds living in Dunclug. People tend to live in little pockets and many don’t know their neighbours. We wanted everyone to come together to strengthen community relations. It was a wonderful day.
“We would like to encourage local residents to join our group so that we can organise more events and provide services for the community.
“A lot of work has been done in Dunclug by the Housing Executive and the council which has been brilliant, but we need local people to take ownership and begin doing things ourselves.”
Our Area Manager, Mairead Myles Davey, said:
“The celebration day was a fantastic event which helps to build relationships in the area.
“We would encourage residents to support their local group which was set up only a year ago. Community groups can be a vital resource providing services, such as cookery classes and childcare. We would like to see Dunclug resident’s group grow and develop but this is only possible if more people volunteer.”
Dunclug Partnership has also been working with Supporting Communities and other local organisations to establish a vibrant community group.
Anyone interested in volunteering with the local resident’s group can get in touch with the group via its Facebook page.
