We were delighted to attend this year’s Northern Ireland Housing Council Awards on Thursday 8th March 2018 at the Hilton hotel, Templepatrick.
The Council has always stressed the importance of delivering an effective service to the public and its awards committee considers the implementation of good practice and standards which enables the main service providers to deliver a high quality service to their customers.
The results were as follows:

Norman Capper Memorial Award

Won by Paula Conway, Senior Development Officer at Choice Housing, this award is presented for excellence in the field of customer or public relations, to an individual or team who present a very positive image of the work of their organisation, and who show real commitment to quality service, giving priority to the interests of the customer.

Jack Bailie Trophy

Won by Paul Carland, Niall Eastwood and Connor Smith, of the Housing Executive’s Social Housing department, this trophy is presented by the Housing Council to a member of staff who introduces an added value work initiative. The initiative must be relevant to the work of the organisation, be measurable, and must demonstrate costs savings, increased activity or improved service.

J R Gorman Trophy

First presented in 1983, this trophy is awarded to a Maintenance Officer who has achieved a high proportion of completed repair requests, along with the highest degree of tenant satisfaction. This year’s trophy was awarded to the Housing Executive’s Area Maintenance Manager for Lisburn & Castlereagh, Michael Kelly.

Jim Speers Special Trophy

Named after former chairman, Councillor Jim Speers, this is awarded for the best Housing Association scheme built within the last three years and occupied for at least 12 months. The 2018 award went to Radius Housing for its Jasmine Way, Twinbrook, West Belfast scheme.
The annual Northern Ireland Housing Council awards were established to recognise the hard work and commitment to the provision of excellent housing services by staff in both the Housing Associations and Housing Executive.
