Belfast Families Enjoy Wonderland-themed Launch for Housing Executive-Funded Support Hub

A preventative approach to homelessness is being funded by the Housing Executive in West Belfast. Vulnerable families are being supported by the Housing Executive and the Salvation Army, through a new Support Activities Hub.

The hub at the Grosvenor Lifehouse hostel offers a wide variety of activities and support including housing assistance, financial management and community participation.     

To celebrate the launch of the hub, a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was held on Friday at Grosvenor Lifehouse. The event was well attended and provided fun for all the family.

Pauline Nolan, a resident at the hostel, said that: “The Support Activities Hub is amazing. It is the perfect place for parents to have the opportunity to learn and relax with other residents.”

Rioghnach Murphy, Service Manager at the Salvation Army, remarked: “We, at Grosvenor and Glen Alva Family Centres, are very excited about the launch of our new Support Activities Hub, generously funded by the Housing Executive.

“We would like to sincerely thank the Housing Executive for its encouragement and support in helping us to tackle the cyclical nature of homelessness. This Hub is the start of a preventative approach that offers developmental opportunities to people at a vulnerable period in their lives.”

Bernie Crossan, the Housing Executive’s Supporting People Homelessness Contract Manager, added that:  “Our Supporting People programme has been supporting families experiencing homelessness for 17 years and the Support Activities Hub will provide families with the tools to achieve independent living.”
