Campsie Residents Association used funding from the Housing Executive to help keep local communities digitally connected.

Allocating £3,450 to the local community group, the Housing Executive awarded the funds through its Community Grant Scheme.

A project called ‘Community Remaining Connected and Educated’ focused on ensuring local residents had access to digital resources.

New IT equipment assisted with providing support for local pupils and for members’ online training, while also helping residents fill in application forms online.

Hazel McGuigan, Campsie Residents Association chairperson, thanked the Housing Executive for the recent funding support.

She said; “Campsie Residents Association was delighted to receive laptops and tablets from the Housing Executive’s Community Grant Scheme.

“During lockdown home-schooling was quite difficult as some of our residents did not have laptops or tablets. The Housing Executive have been so helpful to us and we are very grateful to them.”

Campsie Residents Association provides ongoing support to residents in Omagh and runs regular activities and projects from its hub, local community garden and play park.

Members also work alongside other Housing Executive community groups in the South West area to help improve community relations and promote inclusion.

Oonagh McAvinney, the Housing Executive’s South West Area Manager, said she was encouraged to see funding from the Community Grant Scheme provided essential digital equipment.

She added; “Being able to purchase laptops and tablets through the Community Grant Scheme has provided valuable resources to a hard-working community group which will immediately benefit residents in the local area.

“Campsie Residents Association is clearly very aware of the local community’s needs and promote digital inclusion through the services their hub has to offer.

“It is great to see that members also work to create worthwhile projects that will help residents, while also looking after their overall health and well-being.

“Now having access to digital equipment will also reduce isolation within communities – allowing people to communicate online – while restrictions are still in place for meeting up in person.”
