Housing Executive funding paved the way for 30th Anniversary celebrations for one of the area’s popular community groups last month at the Drummond Hotel.

Limavady Senior Citizens Community Club has been running for 30 years, and was formed on 7 September 1989 by Gerty Gordon.

Veronica Madden has been the Secretary of the Club since 1996.  It meets every Thursday evening for tea, games and dancing.  They also have bus trips and dinner dances a few times a year.

Veronica said:

“Thanks to the Housing Executive we were able to hold a dance to celebrate our Club’s 30 years, and we hope to keep going for many more years!

“Our Club is a great opportunity for people to get together and reduce social isolation, especially in neighbourhoods that have an ageing population.”

The Housing Executive’s local Patch Manager, Alanna Donnelly, was also at the dinner dance.  She said:

“We’re proud to support Limavady Senior Citizens Community Club and help them celebrate thirty years.  They’re an active group and have a great social impact on the local community.”
